Welcome back to the blog! This month is all about personality, what that means and how that impacts an event you may plan or we plan as event planners. Last week we talked about preferences and things that make a us smile. Check it out here! This week we are talking personality quizzes and our opinions and thoughts on it.
Back in college I worked at the school’s recreation center and it would be 4-8 hour shifts and I would either sit at the front desk and check people in or sit in the gear shop and check out equipment either way it was dead. I would work morning shifts (5am to 10am or whatever) and most college students do not go to the gym that early. Sometimes I would get class work and studying done but I had an obsession with doing buzzfeed quizzes when I was bored. They were so stupid but addicting. Did I need to know what pizza topping I was by choosing my favorite Disney films? No. Was I eager to find out? Defiantly. I created my version of this type of quiz and considering it took me 2 weeks to make, yes procrastination was involved, gave me more respect for these buzzfeed creators that pumped out like 10 new quizzes each week. Click the link below to find out if we can correctly guess your zodiac sign based on the type of event you create:
With quizzes like this I think they are fun and goofy and not too many people take stock in the results, but then you get into things like Myers Brigs, Zodiac Signs, and Blood Type personalities. That is where I personally begin to become apprehensive because it feels like putting myself in a box. If I were to introduce myself by these personality generalities it would go a little something like this.
I am INTJ Myers brings which is described as:
“INTJs are analytical problem-solvers, eager to improve systems and processes with their innovative ideas. They have a talent for seeing possibilities for improvement, whether at work, at home, or in themselves. Often intellectual, INTJs enjoy logical reasoning and complex problem-solving. They approach life by analyzing the theory behind what they see, and are typically focused inward, on their own thoughtful study of the world around them. INTJs are drawn to logical systems and are much less comfortable with the unpredictable nature of other people and their emotions. They are typically independent and selective about their relationships, preferring to associate with people who they find intellectually stimulating.” – Myers Briggs
Which is okay I see myself in parts of that and parts of it I do not associate with because my experiences have impacted the way I perceive and interact in the world. Then we have Blood Type personality which is thing I learned about from some of my friends.
I am O which is described as:
“People with blood type O are outgoing, go-getters, and daring. They usually set high standards for themselves, and they do all they can to achieve them. Os have excellent leadership capabilities. Little things do not concern them, and this makes them appear as selfish to people in blood group A who are more sensitive. ” – Blood Type Personality
In the Zodiac I am a Capricorn
“Capricorns belong to the Earth element of the zodiac. The Earth sign crew are all practical, self reliant, stoic and ambitious. You’d want them in your corner… but maybe not at a party. Ambitious(read: workaholic) Driven to do their utmost best, Capricorns never let themselves off the hook. They’re determined to show other people what they’re made of. And, let’s face it, a little bit obsessed with status and the trappings of success.”
Let me tell you Capricorns are not a favorite among the zodiac. Haha.
Yesterday I took a enneagram test. My most fitting type was type 8 which was described as this:
” Eights are self-confident, strong, and assertive. Protective, resourceful, straight-talking, and decisive, but can also be ego-centric and domineering. Eights feel they must control their environment, especially people, sometimes becoming confrontational and intimidating. Eights typically have problems with their tempers and with allowing themselves to be vulnerable. At their Best: self- mastering, they use their strength to improve others’ lives, becoming heroic, magnanimous, and inspiring. ” – Ennegram Institute
Then it went into detail about type 8 when “healthy, moderate and unhealthy” it describes the traits of type 8s and how they can be used depending on each specific person and their tendencies.
Originally this blog post was going to just be “Take this quiz I invented and have fun.” Then I took this test and read the results and wanted to write more. Just like taking my quiz doesn’t mean that you have to plan the exact event you chose to be “true” to your zodiac sign, same goes with all the other personality tests out there. Life is on a spectrum and having an intense personality or zodiac sign isn’t an excuse or reason for life choices it just gives some insight into how someone may behave, and if you do not its cool if you do it is okay as long as it is in a healthy range.
When it comes to planning events; understanding your personality and tendencies can be helpful because it requires introspection, and that is how you will have the best event. When I plan events for myself and have an event planner I know that I like to be kept updated on decisions and have that feeling of contribution even if I do not have the time to make every decision. When hiring an event planner being able to communicate with them about your personality will help us plan your event more smoothly. Maybe you are the complete opposite of me and hate telling people when you do not like something or are more emphatic to others opinions. That is an important detail because there have been so many times in planning events where a client would rather accept something they do not love because they do not want to offend us. I have a very specific aesthetic and to most it’s very boring and that is okay. I do not have to love your choices in decor and theme to plan your event.
The main take away from this blog is A) Do not take personality tests, and classifications insanely seriously, do not let it dictate your life. B) It is a good idea to take these tests because it helps you begin to understand yourself and your preferences, tendencies, what makes you happy. C) Sometimes a fun quiz is amazing to break the tension so do it even if it is a little goofy
